Hauni Maschinenbau GmbH (Hauni) is the world's leading supplier of solutions for the international tobacco industry. It was founded in 1946 as part of the Körber Foundation and has always been working for both small cigarette and tobacco companies and for large international corporations.
Since 2005 they have been publishing the customer magazine HiLiTe. It is published twice a year and it informs about management and branch topics, trends and innovations and the products and services of the Hauni network. In addition to the half-yearly paper version, HiLiTE is also available as an interactive, multimedia mobile app for iOS and Android. There is also a browser version for accessing the magazine from a desktop or notebook.
The HiLiTE app is realized by Claim GmbH who is known for publishing customer magazines, annual reports and image brochures for famous clients such as Comdirect, UBS, Otto Group and Siemens. Since the introduction of Apple’s iPad in 2010 the agency from Hamburg has been converting print magazines to mobile apps. This mainly means adapting the printing format produced in parallel, then adding extra content and multimedia elements to the digital version. From the very beginning, the agency jumped on the bandwagon of this high-speed technological evolution – from the first WoodWing solution to Adobe DPS, to custom developed apps. From the start ProPublish AG from Hamburg was their reliable partner for the technical implementation and integration in different environments.
Initially the HiLiTE app was also produced in an HTML5 variant but during the summer of 2017 Claim decided to migrate to Twixl Publisher. „Not only the more attractive pricing policy but especially the higher flexibility of Twixl gave the impulse for the new direction“, explains Matthias Welker, CEO of the Claim GmbH. Twixl Publisher 5 not only allows us to convert pixel-perfect layouts created in Adobe InDesign into an interactive app, but PDF files and HTML5 contents can also be integrated in the app. „For the HiLiTE app the editorial content is imported from a TYPO3 CMS, then uploaded to the Hauni Twixl-based app“, explains Welker. „Via the new HiLiTe App, our readers can quickly access the current issue as well as an archive of older issues.“
Claim had a specific approach with this HiLiTe app. They work article-based with a browse page to introduce the different issues but each issue is a single HTML article. Or should we say a HTML document. It is an interesting approach, allowing them to create their own navigation and adding specific HTML animations.
